History of the Northampton, Bucks County, Municipal Authority

The Supervisors of Northampton Township established Northampton Bucks County Municipal Authority in 1965 to provide a dependable source of safe water and to provide fire protection. The Authority was established under the 1945 Pennsylvania Municipality Authorities Act.

The Certificate of Incorporation was issued by the Secretary of the Commonwealth on December 31, 1964. Articles of Amendment were filed with the Department of State of the Commonwealth on December 1, 2006, to extend the life of the Authority for a term of fifty (50) years from such date. The Authority has the power and authority to enter into long term agreements that do not extend beyond its amended term of existence (November 30, 2056).

A Board comprised of five Township residents governs the Municipal Authority. The Northampton Board of Supervisors appoints the members to staggered five year terms.
